Burnett Bayland Park Improvements Project Funding Pursuit
TGC partnered with Harris County Precinct 4 to secure $11.3M in funding for the Burnett Bayland Park Improvements Project, a 75-acre public space in Houston’s Gulfton community. TGC led funding pursuit efforts to develop a successful grant application through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) program. The Burnett Bayland Park Improvements Project focuses on enhancing green space, recreational facilities, and infrastructure, with dual goals of expanding recreational opportunities while strengthening flood mitigation efforts.
The grant application incorporated long-term strategies for neighborhood stability, housing, and economic development and made a compelling case by collaborating with local partners and stakeholders to advance the park’s comprehensive plan, which includes walking trails, picnic areas, a nature center, soccer fields, and a detention pond for both recreation and flood control. The plan was informed by the Precinct’s extensive community engagement, involving workshops, surveys, and meetings, ensuring it aligns with local needs and supports multi-generational accessibility.
Successful funding will aim to enable the park’s redevelopment, improving health, safety, and economic opportunities for one of Houston’s most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods.
